Legal Aid
At Seraphus we undertake work funded by the Legal Services Commission (LSC). Legal Aid is a system of government funding, administered by the LSC, for those who cannot afford to pay for legal advice and representation. Legal Aid is fundamental to social and legal justice. In a democratic society all citizens have a right to access justice and get a fair trial. The work is overseen by the Ministry of Justice and the annual legal budget is set by the Treasury.
If you need help with the costs of legal advice, you can apply for legal aid. Whether you receive it will depend on the type of legal problem you have, your income (how much you earn) and how much capital (money, property and belongings you have, and whether there is a reasonable chance of winning your case and whether it is worth the time and money needed to win.
If you want to check whether you are financially eligible prior to seeing us, the LSC have an eligibility calculator (google ‘LSC eligibility calculator’) that will determine your eligibility based on your income and capital. Alternatively, we can check for you, and also determine the chances of winning your case either by email or by appointment.
