What is a Minister of Religion visa?
A Minister of Religion visa allows individuals to perform pastoral religious activities at an employer that is sponsored by the Home Office to employ foreign workers.
How long can I stay in the UK on a Minister of Religion visa?
Normally you can stay in the UK for up to 3 years and 1 month before the visa needs to be extended. This visa is a five-year route to settlement however there is a maximum stay of 6 years on this visa category.
What are the eligibility requirements of a Minister of Religion visa?
The main eligibility requirements for a Minister of Religion visa are:
- You need a job offer from a UK organisation that holds a valid Home Office sponsorship license. The job offered must be to perform religious duties (mainly pastoral work) within the organisation. The employer must issue a Certificate of Sponsorship for you to apply for the visa.
- Proven knowledge of the English language at level B2 or above.
- Unless exempted, you must show you have enough money to support yourself for an initial period in the UK.
- You will need to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge as part of the application.
- The sponsoring organisation must pay an Immigration Skills Charge.
What are the main conditions of the Minister of Religion visa?
If you are successful in being granted a visa, you must only work in the job described in the Certificate of Sponsorship. This visa does not allow access to public funds.
You may be able to perform a second job in certain circumstances. It may also be possible to do voluntary work and study (subject to Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate requirements).
