Global Talent visa

The Global Talent visa is for individuals working in certain sectors such as in medicine, science, engineering, humanities, digital technology or arts and culture who can show a proven track-record of achievement in their field.

The Global Talent route offers a 3-year and 5-year path to settlement, depending on the type of endorsement you receive. 

The Global Talent visa is one of the most flexible UK immigration routes, offering freedom to work, create and build your career without sponsorship. 

You can also bring your partner and children to the UK, and they will be able to work without restriction. 

The benefits of the Global Talent visa include the ability to work in the UK without a sponsor. You can switch between roles with other employers without needing sponsorship, a specific job offer or the need to submit new visa application each time.

You can also be self-employed and operate your own business in your field, which is restricted in other visa categories.

Instead of requiring sponsorship in the UK, you must either obtain an endorsement from an approved endorsing body responsible for their field or show that you hold a qualifying prize from the Prestigious Prizes list.

The Global Talent visa is only for those in specific fields such as in science, engineering, humanities, medicine, digital technology or arts and culture. You will also need to demonstrate a proven track record and show you are recognised in your field.

Many applicants switch into the Global Talent route from other UK visas, including Skilled Worker and Student routes.

Endorsements are issued by approved bodies depending on your field. Current endorsing bodies are:

• Arts Council 
• Tech Nation
• British Academy 
• Royal Society 
• Royal Academy of Engineering 
• UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) 

The criteria differ across endorsing bodies, and there are different categories of endorsement depending on your experience. There are also separate routes to endorsement, and some applicants can even skip the endorsement stage all together by demonstrating they have a qualifying prize for the prestigious prizes list.

The Global Talent visa requirements are essentially to either show you have a prize listed in the prestigious prizes list or secure an endorsement from an endorsing body. There are no financial, job offer, salary or English language requirements, which makes this route far more flexible than the Skilled Worker visa.

Your Global Talent endorsement application must be as strong as possible. Common mistakes include not matching your experience to the endorsing body’s qualifying criteria, not providing enough supporting evidence, or choosing the wrong endorsement category.

There are two types of endorsements. Some endorsing bodies use different terms for these categories.

• Leader or Exceptional Talent
• Potential leader or Exceptional Promise

This endorsement is the first step of the application. Once obtained you can then make a visa application directly to the Home Office.

If you are already in the UK, you can submit both stages at the same time, which may be helpful to speed up the process.

Processing times vary depending on the endorsing body, so early preparation is essential.
